  • The dissertation postulates the possible analogous congruencies between Paul Celan’s volume of poems Die Niemandsrose and Emine Sevgi Özdamar’s trilogy of novels Sonne auf halbem Weg, pointing towards prospects of opening up future in-depth discourse within the research field. In addition to an overview of the most important biographical background information on both poets, the introductory section of the work elaborates upon the scientific basics(“the principle of blurred-felt/fulfilled extension”)which – inspired by Karl Raimund Popper’s Drei-Welten-Theorie – emanate from an interaction between a (brittle) “external” world and a (flawed) “inner” world, generating a continuous, renewed release of “freshly-blurred” language from constant reverberations, via the “lightning-fast” emergence of poetic language. The term “crisis” constitutes a central concept of the theoretical section of this work. By analogy, the cultural-theoretical approach of Homi K. Bhabhas (“breach from the outside”), the philosophical standpoint of Bernhard Waldenfels (“flaw from the inside”) – including associations with Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, Hannah Arendt, Merleau-Ponty, Sigmund Freud, Walter Benjamin, and Michail Bachtin – as well as an exposition of the intellectual phenomenon of productive melancholy are all taken into account. In the analytical section of the work emphasis is placed on an investigation of the collection of poems Die Niemandsrose by Celan, particularly with respect to the correlation between “obscurity of existence and linguistic expression”. While the first two cycles represent a search for a pathway through the troubled abyss, the third and fourth cycles are more concerned with an avoidance of decline. The quest for an “approachable, familiar You” (Celan) has thus become a fundamental poetological declaration which is equally felt and fulfilled in a setting of blurriness. The question of possible congruencies between Celan’s Niemandrose and Özdamar’s Sonne auf halbem Weg underscores not only their shared point of departure, it remains a common feature up to the end of this present work: In the form of a synopsis – originating from the prominent motif of the “stone” in the works of both poets – a clash takes place between Celan’s poetics and Özdamar’s fictional diction, in the poetic word itself.
